“The DMK party chief who came here today morning is meeting home minister right now in the hotel.. He cancelled his flight (back to Chennai) which he had to board at 8 pm. tonight (Monday night). He might leave tomorrow (Tuesday) morning,” a DMK MP told IANS.

The DMK chief reached the jail premises at 5.43 p.m. and left in an hour at around 6.45 p.m.

Karunanidhi first met his daughter and then former telecom minister A.Raja and Kalaignar TV managing director Sharad Kumar. “While the family met Kanimozhi, the DMK leader met the two others alone,” the DMK leader said.

Kanimozhi, Raja and Sharad Kumar are lodged in the high-security Tihar Jail in connection with the 2G spectrum scam.

The DMK leader also said that soon after his meeting with his Kanimozhi, Raja and Sharad Kumar, the former Tamil Nadu chief minister decided to meet the home minister. “It is an important meeting,” he said.

Kanimozhi, who was sent to jail by a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) special court Friday after her bail petition was denied, filed an appeal in the Delhi High Court Monday. It will come up for hearing Tuesday.

“The arrest (of Kanimozhi) is a vendetta against DMK and my family,” Karunanidhi had said in an open letter to party cadres in the DMK official journal Friday.
