80 Abu Dhabi schools to start eco clubs

Abu Dhabi: Eighty schools in Abu Dhabi have been given grants by the government to start eco clubs and empower students to help solve burning environmental issues, officials said.

The Environment Agency-Abu Dhabi (EAD) and the Emirates Foundation for Philanthropy awarded grant ranging between 3,000-10,000 dirhams to each of the 80 schools for managing the eco clubs.

Eduardo Goncalves, director of the environmental awareness sector of EAD, said: “As leaders of tomorrow, it is critical that we engage children in the environmental challenges that our society is facing.”

Lamya Faisal, head of the environment programme at the Emirates Foundation for Philanthropy, said they expect to engage around 1,300 students in effective environmental activities.
