New Delhi: The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Thursday slammed the government over the fresh petrol price hike, saying it was “insensitive” towards the ‘aam adami’ (common man).
Reacting sharply to the announcement in the evening, BJP leader Nirmala Sitharaman said the government first failed in controlling the prices of essential commodities and now has raised fuel prices. She dubbed it as “total insensitivity”.
“They have no words of consolation to offer to the ‘aam adami’, on whose name the government came in power,” Sitharaman told IANS.
Food inflation also reached the highest mark in nine months at 12.21 percent.
“They have no more explanations to offer, they are hitting both the purse and belly of the ‘aam adami’,” she said.
Party leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy, meanwhile, said that the people will not forgive the government for this decision.
“The government will not be forgiven for this hike,” he said.
The price of petrol was hiked by Rs.1.80 Thursday, to be effective from midnight.
