Ranji Trophy: Ravindra Jadeja strikes triple ton against Orissa

New Delhi : Ravindra Jadeja’s triple century powered Saurashtra to 545 in their first innings against Orissa at Cuttack on the second day of Ranji Trophy elite division ties that saw huge scores from Karnataka, Mumbai and Bengal Friday.

Jadeja showed his all-round potential, carrying on from overnight 141 not out and leading the batting with a scintillating 314. He took 375 balls and struck 29 fours and nine sixes. Orissa’s Basant Mohanty took four wickets. In reply, the hosts reached 51 for no loss at stumps.

Mumbai and Karnataka too piled up huge first-innings totals, courtesy Rohit Sharma’s 175 and K.B Pawan’s 220 for their teams respectively.

Rohit, who was at overnight 133 against the Railways at the Karnail Singh Stadium here, continued in the same vein as Mumbai reached 483. His 175 came in 287 balls with the help of 20 fours and one six. Mumbai then reduced the Railways to 66/3 with seasoned off-spinner Ramesh Powar taking two wickets.

At Udaipur, Pawan and Stuart Binny (151) carried Karnataka to 562 for six against champions Rajasthan. They were supported by Manish Pandey (58) and Amit Verma (69).

At Kolkata, Bengal declared their first innings at 560 for six against Gujarat with wicket-keeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha top-scoring with 167 not out.

Delhi managed well to bowl out Haryana for 293 with left-arm seamer Pradeep Sangwan claiming five for 67. At stumps, Delhi were 214 for three with Milind Kumar (84) and Rajat Bhatia (57) at crease.

In the plate division, Tripura’s medium pacer Timir Chanda took eight wickets against Himachal Pradesh, who notched up 531 with Paras Dogra scoring an unbeaten 205.
