Lucknow: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) vice president Kalraj Mishra Friday demanded that the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Samajwadi Party (SP) clarify whether they would support a no-confidence motion against the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) in parliament.
“Even as Mayawati’s BSP and Mulayam Singh Yadav’s SP make a lot of hue and cry over rising prices and blame the UPA for not taking concrete steps to contain inflation, both BSP and SP continue to support the Congress from outside at the centre,” Mishra told reporters at a press conference in Etawah district, some 150 km from Lucknow.
He is leading one of BJP’s two Jan Swabhiman Yatras aimed at exposing alleged corruption in the Mayawati government in Uttar Pradesh, which will hold assembly polls next year.
“Taking into account the dual standards of the SP and BSP, we want to know what would be their stand if a no-confidence motion was brought against the UPA in parliament…Before undertaking any campaign against the Congress-led UPA, both SP and BSP should give a clear answer over the issue to the public of Uttar Pradesh,” said Mishra.
He did not comment on whether the BJP had taken a decision to bring a no-confidence motion against the UPA in the winter session of parliament beginning Nov 22.
Mishra said, “For vested interests, all the three (Congress, SP and BSP) have entered a tacit understanding…Both SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and BSP chief Mayawati are under the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) scanner for acquiring disproportionate assets.”
“As the CBI is being controlled by the central government, Yadav and Mayawati avoid confronting the Congress directly over its wrong economic policies,” he said.
Besides Mishra, BJP former president Rajnath Singh is leading another Jan Swabhiman Yatra. The Jan Swabhiman Yatra will conclude in Ayodhya Nov 17 in a Vijay Sankalp Samagam that would also be attended by BJP president Nitin Gadkari.
