Mumbai: Calling for rebuilding the rapidly dwindling trust in business enterprises, Planning Commission member Arun Maira Friday said that a partnership was needed between businesses, civil society and the government for a better world.
Speaking at the release of his book “Transforming Capitalism-Improving the World for Everyone”, Maira drew attention to the need to transform businesses and the society.
“We often ask ourselves what kind of world we would leave for our grandchildren. To improve the world and the lives of everyone, what is needed is a partnership between businesses, civil society and the government,” Maira said.
Speaking in a panel discussion, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) President B. Muthuraman called for developing new metrics of measurement beyond the usual parameters of market capitalisation and profitability.
Seeking usage of the term “free enterprise” rather than capitalism, CII’s president designate Adi Godrej said there was a need to add more to business objectives than the original capitalist aspirations. He also sought the inclusion of ethics as a subject in the management curriculum of educational institutions.
