Biman comments hurting Left Front: Partners

By IANS,

Kolkata : Several partners of West Bengal’s opposition Left Front Sunday took exception to its chairman Biman Bose’s disparaging remarks on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s district tours and her party’s alliance with the Congress, saying the comments were hurting the combine’s image.

“The Front leadership must ensure that their words and behaviour are decent and refined, especially when it is the time to win back lost ground. He (Bose) is the chairman and any damage to his image will dent the image of the Front,” Forward Bloc leader Naren Chatterjee said.

Another Left partner Samajwadi Party’s Kiranmoy Nanda said: “He is a senior and respected leader, I believe he shouldn’t have made such remarks.”

“No matter how many times he apologises, the words he said and their effect will remain. In the interest of our alliance, he should refrain from such comments,” said Subhas Naskar of the Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP).

Bose Saturday had taken a dig at Banerjee’s “car visits” to districts, saying the chief minister perhaps had problems in walking.

On Wednesday, Bose had to apologise for his remarks on the future of Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress and Congress alliance.
