Government approves 15 highway projects worth Rs.15,680 crore

New Delhi: Giving a boost to the transport sector, the government Wednesday approved 15 highway projects covering a total of 1,814 km at a cost of Rs.15,680 crore.

“The cabinet committee on infrastructure in its meeting today has approved 15 projects for highway construction totalling 1,814 km at an estimated cost of Rs.15,680 crore,” the ministry of transport and highway said in a statement.

According to the statement, ten projects of the total approved work would be undertaken by the state-run National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), while two projects would be executed by Rajasthan public works department and the rest three projects through Madhya Pradesh road development corporation.

“Clearance for these projects indicates government’s firm commitment to augment the highway infrastructure on an urgent basis,” the statement said.

Some of the major projects include six laning of Etawah – Chakeri, Kanpur section of national highway-2 (NH) in Uttar Pradesh under the fourth phase of the national highway development programme (NHDP).

The project would cover a length of 160.21 km at a cost of Rs.1,652.38 crore.

“Four/six laning of Raipur – Bilaspur section on NH-200 in the state of Chhatisharh under NHDP phase – IV-A for a distance of 126.52 km and with a cost of Rs.1,371.73 crore,” the statement said.

The projects are to be carried out in eight states.
