New Delhi : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L.K. Advani said Sunday that opposition National Democratic Alliance (NDA) MPs will submit a declaration in parliament stating that they have no hidden foreign bank accounts.
The declaration, Advani said, would read like this: “I solemnly declare that I don’t have directly or indirectly any bank account or asset illegally held outside India.”
The announcement at the public rally to conclude Advani’s nationwide journey comes in the wake of reports that three MPs figure in the list of 700 Indians who have allegedly stashed funds in Swiss bank accounts that brought the black money issue close to the Indian political system.
Advani said he had consulted leaders of the BJP-led combine on the issue and the declaration would be given to Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar and Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari within a week after the start of the winter session Tuesday.
He said the winter session was bound to focus on the black money issue. He lashed out at the government saying he had demanded a status paper on black money during the upcoming session. “I don’t know if they will bring it.”
In Mumbai during his 40-day yatra, Advani had alleged that three MPs have been named — one each from Kerala, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana — in the list of those having Swiss bank accounts.
