The military police fired tear gas at demonstrators when the clashes erupted between the security forces and protesters in the square, the TV said.

Many of the protesters fled into the side streets after the forces’ effort to clear the square, which has been witnessing demonstrations from Friday calling for the ruling military council to hand power to civilians.
