Moscow : President Dmitry Medvedev Monday said Russia would spend unprecedented sums on new weaponry.
“Make no doubt about it, we will continue equipping the army,” he said.
“We have significant, unprecedented, large amounts of money to that end,” he said during a meeting with army servicemen in southern Russia’s Vladikavkaz.
The Russian government has pledged 22 trillion rubles ($730 billion) for its state arms procurement program through 2020.
Medvedev also said Russia may buy some foreign-made arms “so that we have an idea of how foreign armies are equipped and that our producers can make the best arms”.
