Mumbai : The family members of slain senior journalist Jyotirmoy Dey Friday demanded that capital punishment be given to his killers.
Mid Day’s editor (special investigations), Dey (56) was killed near his residence at Powai, central suburb of Mumbai, July 11. He had told the family that he was stepping out for half an hour.
Dey’s mother Bina told mediapersons at her home Friday evening that the family is “satisfied” by the police investigations into the killing.
Mumbai Police Friday arrested a city newspaper’s crime reporter, Jigna Vora, in connection with Dey’s killing. She was remanded in police custody till Dec 1 by a special MCOCA Court.
Reacting to the developments, Bina Dey said it was shocking how a professional colleague could stoop to such a level and make her son vulnerable to killers.
“They mercilessly took away his life. They should also get the same punishment and know what it means to take somebody’s life,” Bina asserted, her voice choking with emotion.
While expressing satisfaction over the police investigations that led to 11 arrests so far, Bina Dey said that justice would be done after the courts give the culprits the maximum punishment.
Among other things, Vora has been accused of providing Dey’s cell and bike numbers, his office and residential addresses and other vital information to self-exiled mafia don Chhota Rajan Nikhalje’s gangsters.
A few days ago, Chhota Rajan owned up responsibility for Dey’s killing and also expressed regrets over it, while speaking to a TV channel.
