Mumbai : Nationalist Congress Party president Sharad Pawar’s daughter Supriya Sule Sunday called on Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray and thanked him for for his support after her father was assaulted in Delhi.
“We may have political differences, but our families have friendly relations for the last 40 years, which we will surely strive to maintain,” she said.
“I have not come here on any political visit. I have not come here to meet Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray, but my “Kaka” (uncle),” she added.
Sule said that her relationship with the Thackeray family can be traced back to the time when she was born and that her mother and Thackeray’s wife were good friends.
“That is why I am here. Kaka told me things from my childhood which even I do not remember,” she said.
Sule said that she also spoke to Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray and his wife Sharmila over the phone and thanked them for the support they extended after her father was assaulted in Delhi Thursday.
“In Maharashtra, we have a different style of politics, which all the parties have followed. There may be political differences, but those should not affect personal relationship,” she said.
Pawar was Thursday slapped by Harvinder Singh, who said he was angry over rising prices and corruption, at a public function at the New Delhi Municipal Council centre. Dressed in a blue striped T-shirt, the turbaned Sikh also unleashed a small kirpan as security guards tried to overpower him.
