New Delhi : Businessman K Raghu Ramakrishna Raju was Tuesday named the owner of Chennai franchise of the i1 Super Series racing league beginning from Jan 8 in Abu Dhabi.
Ramakrishna, chairman of Ind-Barath Power Infra Private Ltd, was announced as the fifth i1 Super Series franchisee after Tollywood actor Nagarjuna for Hyderabad, Arjun Baljee and Rudra Dalmia for Bangalore, Arindam Chaudhuri for Delhi and Bollywood Superstar Shahrukh Khan for Mumbai.
Announcing the partnership, Darshan M, CEO of i1 Super Series said: “I am very pleased to announce that we have finalised on our team owner for the Chennai for the upcoming i1 Super Series. Raghu is a big motorsports fan and was adamant that he be a part of the i1 Super Series. Chennai is the motorsport capital of India with rich history in the sport and Raghu is keen to ensure that his team lives up to the standards.”
The cost of each team is pegged to be around $20 million.
The i1 Super Series, charted on the popular city-based franchisee format, will have nine teams representing as many cities from across the country with each team having a driver of Indian origin and an international name.
