Former DMK minister’s house raided

By IANS,

Chennai : The residences and business premises of former DMK minister Pongalur N. Palanisamy and his associates were raided Tuesday in connection with a corruption case, officials said.

According to the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption (DVAC), cases were registered against Palanisamy Monday for allegedly amassing wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income between June 2006 to March 2010.

DVAC raids were conducted in several premises belonging to Palanisamy, his relatives and associates in Chennai, Coimbatore and Tirupur.

The raids were being conducted in about seven places across Tamil Nadu, including his native Coimbatore and Tirupur districts.

Speaking to reporters, Palanisamy said the raids were politically motivated and he would face the cases legally.

The agency had earlier raided the homes and offices of six former DMK ministers.
