Bhubaneswar: Orissa Sunday announced waiving of examination fees of class 10 students in the regions affected by last month’s floods.
The examination fee of students studying in class 10 in both government and government-aided high schools in the affected areas for this year has been waived in view of the floods, state Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Surya Narayan Patro said.
At least 82 people were killed and six million people of 21 of state’s 30 districts were affected in the two rounds of floods the state witnessed last month.
The government has also decided to waive tuition and examination fees of students in class 11 and 12 in both government and government aided colleges in the same region, he said.
Although water has receded in most of the villages, thousands of people continue to take shelter in makeshift homes, and on roads and embankments as their houses have been completely damaged.
The state government has targeted to carry out rehabilitation and re-construction work in the affected areas in next 45 days at an estimated cost of Rs.1,208 crores.
