Emergency re-imposed due to Egypt’s security situation: Tantawi

Cairo: The head of Egypt’s Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) Hussein Tantawi Monday said the security situation the country was passing through was the reason for reactivating the emergency law.

“No one wants the reactivation of the emergency law, but the critical security condition Egypt is witnessing nowadays gives us no other choice. Who can believe that a wife is kidnapped in front of her husband in the street,” said Tantawi, reported Xinhua, citing official news agency MENA.

He promised that the emergency state will be ended once the security situation is better, urging the Egyptian people to exceed their efforts along with the security forces to achieve stability and security.

Tantawi’s remarks came after he inaugurated a highway constructed by the engineering authority of the armed forces in Minya governorate.

The ruling SCAF declared the reactivation of the emergency law after protesters stormed the Israeli embassy in Cairo last month.
