AMU Kishanganj: Protest at Bihar Bhawan in New Delhi

New Delhi: In order to pressurize Bihar government for taking positive steps to make sure the establishment of AMU Off-Campus in Kishanganj, Delhi based AMU Centre Co-ordination Committee is going to organize dharna in front of Bihar Bhawan in New Delhi on October 9, 2011 from 2 PM to 3 PM.

“The dharna is intended to send a warning message to Bihar Govt for showing apathy towards the educational project. Nitish led Bihar Government is unnecessarily delaying the matter and giving lame excuses” said Mohammad Mudassir Alam, media in-charge of the committee.

He further said that the protest in delhi is just a wakeup call before the grand democratic agitation scheduled on October 12, 2011 in Kishanganj under the banner of ‘Educational Movement for AMU’ under the leadership of Kishanganj MP Maulana Asrarul Haque Qasmi.

Notably, the committee organized “National Conference on AMU Centre Kishanganj Bihar” at India Islamic Cultural Centre in New Delhi on September 30, 2011. Thw conference was attended by several dignitries, politicians and educationists including AMU VC, Prof. Abdul Azis.

The committee had meetings with JD (U) President Sharad Yadav, RJD Supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav, LJP Chief Ram Vilas Paswan, and many other key political figures from Bihar and other states of the country on this issue.

Based on the recommendations of Sachchar Committee and Fatami Committee rports, the Union Ministry of HRD proposed five Off-Centres in different places Muslim dominated district of the country. While the centres at Mallapuram (Kerala), Murshidabad (West Bengal) strated the classes, the centers in Kishanganj (Bihar), Pune (Maharashtra) and Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) are still to see any development.
