“Yes, the minister has lodged a complaint with us and we are looking into the matter. The numbers from which the calls were made are of public booths,” Kolkata Police Joint Commissioner (Crime) Damayanti Sen told IANS.

Mitra received several calls on his mobile with the caller threatening and abusing him.

“The moment I received the call a man on the other side used abusive language and threatened me of dire consequences. He again called up and asked to ring him back on the number.

“When my people rang him up he again abused and threatened. Even some police officers who were with me at that time were not spared in spite of telling that they were from police,” said Mitra.

Mitra said he was not perturbed by the calls but if the problem persisted he might refrain from attending phone calls from unknown numbers which could cause inconvenience to the common people.

“I am here to serve the public and have given my number to all so that anybody may approach me for help. But if such things continue, I may not pick up the phone which will result in inconvenience to the people,” added Mitra.
