Azad brokers peace in Kashmir town

By IANS,

Jammu : After three days of communal clashes in Bhaderwah town of Jammu and Kashmir, peace was finally restored Saturday after the intervention of union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad.

Azad, who rushed to Bhaderwah from Delhi Friday, met leaders of the two communities involved in the strife.

“People have decided to live in peace,” Azad told IANS Saturday. “There was some misunderstanding between the two communities, and that has been removed.”

More than two dozen people were injured in clashes as major towns in the hilly belt of Jammu region were observing a shutdown due to the alleged blasphemous remarks of a college lecturer in Bhaderwah town, some 200 km from here.

“The leaders of both the communities were desirous of peace and we have achieved it by the cooperation of one and all,” Azad said.

Bhaderwah is the native place of Azad.
