Man held with fake notes

Lucknow : A man linked to a Nepal-based fake currency racket was arrested with counterfeit Indian notes with a face value of around Rs.50,000 in Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur district, police said Monday.

Iliyas alias Mohd. Raju, 35, was nabbed Sunday in Tulsipur area while he was on his way to hand over the fake currency to some of his clients.

“Preliminary investigations indicate Iliyas was involved in smuggling of fake currency notes to Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Uttarakhand and Madhya Pradesh,” police Inspector P.N. Mishra told reporters in Sitapur, some 80 km from Lucknow.

“For nearly last four-five years, Iliyas has been involved in the illegal trade being operated from Nepal,” he added.
