Kuwait’s deputy PM quits

Kuwaiti City : Kuwait’s deputy prime minister and foreign minister Sheikh Mohammad Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah has resigned, Xinhua quoted the government spokesman as saying Tuesday.

Sheikh Mohammad is a senior member of the ruling Sabah family, which has ruled the oil-rich Gulf Arab emirate for more than 250 years. He became the country’s deputy prime minister and foreign minister in February 2005.

The resignation was accepted, said spokesman Al-Rashed in a statement to the official KUNA news agency, without elaborating.

He was absent from recent diplomatic events including an Arab foreign ministers conference in the Egyptian capital of Cairo Sunday and the weekly cabinet meeting a day later.
