Now call to book train tickets

By IANS,

New Delhi : Booking train tickets by a phone call would soon be possible.

Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) will start a new enquiry number (138) that will allow travellers to book train tickets on phone. They will have to use cash cards purchased from IRCTC counters for that.

“We are planning to start the service soon where booking train tickets through a call would be possible,” Minister of Railways Dinesh Trivedi told reporters Wednesday.

The initiative is part of railways plan to use IT in improving passenger services.

Officials said the new facility aims to provide faster services to the passengers and the call can be made from all telecom operators.

Passengers will have access to travel related information like availability of accommodation, tatkal booking, train number, concessions and cancellation rules, once the new facility is launched.

Railway enquiry number (139), which offers basic service like PNR details, will continue, said officials.
