Hyderabad : In a development that triggered speculation in political circles, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leader and Member of Parliament Vijayashanti Wednesday received Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L.K. Advani when his anti-corruption yatra entered her Medak constituency.
The actress-turned-politician not only received the yatra at Pragnapur in Medak district but also traveled with him on his special vehicle.
Vijayashanti later defended her action in receiving Advani and recalled that he treated her like his daughter when she was in BJP. “I requested him to mount pressure on Congress to carve out Telangana state,” said the MP.
She denied any “politics” behind her move or any plan to rejoin the BJP.
Vijayashanti, who earned the nickname ‘Lady Amitabh’ for her action roles in Telugu films, also found fault with Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) leaders for not calling on Adavni when the BJP is wholeheartedly supporting the Telangana movement.
The actress, whose film career spans over three decades, had joined the BJP in 1997. She quit the party in 2005 to float a separate outfit Talli Telangana Party to fight for separate Telangana state.
She merged her party with TRS before 2009 elections and was elected to Lok Sabha from Medak.
