Kozhikode: Noted writer, director and critic PT Kunju Muhammed has been selected for the Mehboob e Millat Award instituted by the Dubai-based Millat Foundation. The award comprising of Rs 50,001, memento and certificate will be presented in a function held in Dubai in December, informed the office-bearers of the Foundation in a press conference.

The award was instituted by the Foundation in memory of late INL leader Ibrahim Sulaiman Sait. The Jury that selected Mr Kunjumuhammed comprised of Babu Bharadwaj, Umar Puthiyottil and NK Abdul Azeez. Babu Bharadwaj, NK Abdul Azeez, Musthafa Thaikandi, Shamseer KUttichira and TK Moosa attended the press conference held in Kozhikode.
Mr Kunju Muhammed presents the programme ‘Pravasalokam’ in the Malayalam channel Kairali TV. He has recently been in news for his film ‘Veeraputhran’ about Muhammed Abdurahman Sahib, Congress leader and freedom fighter. A co-traveller of the Left ideology, Mr Kunju Muhammed is well-known for his critical writings and films. His film ‘Paradesi’ about the aged Pak citizens in Kerala (Malayalis who happened to be in Pakistan at the time of partition and became Pak citizens, and later returned back to India but could not become Indian citizens) was highly acclaimed.
