New Delhi: The National Executive Council of Popular Front of India has urged the Central and State Governments to control the emerging trend of communal and targeted violence in different states and ensure social security of Muslims and other religious minorities. The PFI passed the resolution in its meeting held here on 28th October.
Many incidents of violence against the Muslim community have been reported during the past few months from various states such as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh. Also there are recent cases of insulting Holy Quran reported from some states. In most of the incidents, the police forces have once again illustrated their animosity against victims by joining hands with the rioters.
PFI said the whole drama is politically motivated but Congress and other secular parties are not doing enough to check it.
“There are reasons to believe that the fascist forces are working on an agenda of creating communal polarisation with an eye on the forthcoming Assembly and Lok Sabha elections. The infiltration of RSS in the anti-corruption movement and the Rath Yatra of L K Advani followed by Satyagraha of Narendra Modi are parts of this political game. The unfortunate part of the story is that Congress and other secular parties are not showing enough guts to counter this threat to nation’s integrity and security,” said K.M Shareef, General Secretary, PFI.
PFI has called upon the minorities to overcome all kinds of communal provocations and concentrate on striving for their human rights, social justice and empowerment through suitable democratic means.
While expressing serious concern over saffron terrorism, the National Executive Council of PFI condemned harassment of minority members after every terror blast. The group also demanded a white paper on all terror blasts since 1992.
“The meeting expressed serious concerns about the recent alarming revelation in the High level police officers meet that Hindutva organisations are behind 16 terrorist blasts. Though the involvement of Hindutva organisations in various blast cases were repeatedly exposed, the Central and State Governments always preferred to downplay the threat. It is high time that the investigation agencies should keep very close vigilance on all affiliates of Sangh Parivar. Even now Muslims are often terrorized after every blast under the cover of investigation. The assurance given by Prime Minister that minorities would not be targeted during investigation should be brought into practice. The meeting demanded the Central Government to issue a white paper on all the terrorist blasts since 1992,” said PFI statement released after the Council meeting on Friday.
PFI is going to hold Social Justice Conference on 26-27 November at Ramlila Maidan, New Delhi.
