The blaze is believed to have been caused by an electrical short-circuit in a shop in the Sagar complex in Pheelkhana area.

The fire engulfed the first floor of the complex, gutting several outlets of electronic goods, garments, footwear and stationery items.

?It was a massive fire that spread to commercial establishments within minutes, following which we had to evacuate the entire complex with the assistance of the police,” Chief Fire Officer Shiv Darash told reporters in Kanpur, some 80 km from Lucknow.

?The situation is under control now. While the exact financial loss in the fire is yet to be ascertained, it is initially being pegged at around Rs.25 lakh,” he added.
