6.6 magniture earthquake rocks Indonesia’s north Sumatra early Tuesday

Beijing : An earthquake measuring 6.6 on the Richter scale jolted northern Sumatra innorthwestern Indonesia at 1:55 am Beijing Time Tuesday (1755 UTC Monday), according to the China Earthquake Networks Centre here.

The epicentre, with a depth of 110 km, was initially determined to be at 3.0 degrees north latitude and 97.9 degrees east longitude.

Meanwhile the United States Geological Survey reported that an earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale was recorded off the east coast of Honshu, Japan at 19:49:15 UTC Monday.

The epicentre, with a depth of 21.30 km, was initially determined to be at 36.6025 degrees north latitude and 142.5117 degrees east longitude. Enditem

The US Geological Survey also reported that an earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale jolted the South Sandwich Islands region at 20:32:41 UTC Monday.

The epicentre, with a depth of 81.70 km, was initially determined to be at 56.0136 degrees south latitude and 27.3652 degrees west longitude.
