A total of 36.1 mm of rain has been recorded in the national capital during the last 24 hours till 8.30 a.m. Friday morning, India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials said.

While the minimum temperature recorded this morning was 25 degrees Celsius, the maximum temperature has been forecast at a pleasant 29 degrees.

The rains however brought harrowing times for commuters who faced long traffic jams due to water logging. Many major routes including several spots on the arterial ‘Ring Road’, Defence Colony, Lajpat Nagar, Malviya Nagar, ITO, connecting roads from neighbouring Noida and Gurgaon witnessed jams.

“I started from Sarojini Nagar for Noida at 9.30 a.m., it’s 10.30 and I am still in the traffic,” Shweta Arya, an executive with an investment firm, told IANS.

According to traffic police, the jams were caused by water logging, and traffic lights that stopped functioning in the rains.

The national capital has been experiencing scattered rains in the last few days, which has brought the seasonal rainfall deficit down to 12 percent.

A total of 513.9 mm of rain has been recorded in Delhi since the outbreak of monsoon.
