PM to meet chief ministers on land reforms

New Delhi : Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is likely to call soon a meeting of all chief ministers on issues of land reforms, modernisation of land records and revamping the revenue administration.

Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh Saturday said the meet will raise issues related to land reforms with the chief ministers as it is a state subject.

Ramesh said there is a need to bring the states on board as updating of land records, necessary for any land reforms programme, especially in the tribal areas, has to be done by the local administration.

He said the progress of land record modernisation is slow in the states.
