Bangalore: At least nine people were injured and two buildings razed to the ground in a huge explosion, said to be caused by LPG cylinder blast in a marriage hall, in west Bangalore Wednesday, police said.
The Venkateshwara wedding hall and a three-storey building abutting it collapsed following the explosion, police said.
There were not many people in the two buildings in the Sumanahalli area, about 15 km from city centre, when the explosion occurred, residents in the area told reporters.
The nine injured are being treated at a hospital nearby and they all are out of danger, police said.
“We are ascertaining the cause of the explosion. It is believed that an LPG cylinder exploded in the wedding hall,” Bangalore city Police Commissioner B.G. Jyothi Prakash Mirji told reporters on the spot.
He said police would also find out whether there was a chemicals factory in the basement of the building abutting the wedding hall as both structures have collapsed, he said.
