Zardari Tuesday launched the Special Flood Control Room, which is manned 24 hours a day, seven days a week, reported Associated Press of Pakistan.

Floods in Sindh province have impacted over seven million people with almost half a million people being accommodated in over 2,500 camps. As many as 1.3 million homes have been damaged and six million acres of land were inundated.

Spokesperson Farhatullah Babar said the president also issued several on the spot instructions to remove bottlenecks, ensure smooth operation of the relief measures and provide relief in special cases.

Zardari said he woud stay in Karachi for as long as it takes to personally supervise the flood monitors.

“I will carry out surprise checks anywhere and at anytime during the day and night through the use of this modern technology to see what is going on where,” Farhatullah Babar quoted Zardari as saying.
