Lucknow : Right to Information (RTI) activists will traverse various Uttar Pradesh villages on foot in a 500-km march from Sep 24 to make rural masses aware of the Jan Lokpal bill
“The padyatra (foot march) will pass through hundreds of villages,” organiser Alok Kumar Singh said in Lucknow Wednesday. “The objective is to make the rural masses aware of the Jan Lokpal Bill and how they will benefit if the stronger version of the anti-graft law is implemented.”
According to the organisation, people from all walks of life must keep mounting pressure so that the lokpal bill is passed in the winter session of Parliament.
“The padyatra will begin at the GPO park in Lucknow. After covering nearly 500 km, the march will reach Kushinagar,” Singh said.
According to the RTI activists participating, they will hold street plays during the Sarvodaya Yatra.
“The street plays will immensely help us to persuade villagers, particularly those who are illiterate,” Singh said.
