Kabul : Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani Thursday met Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai and condoled the assassination of former president Burhanuddin Rabbani.
Rabbani was killed in a suicide blast at his home here Tuesday. He headed a government peace council set up to broker peace with the Taliban.
Gilani said Rabbani’s death was a huge loss not only to Afghanistan but to the whole region.
Rabbani was a visionary leader, he added.
The Pakistani leader also met Rabbani’s sons Salahuddin, Jalaluddin, Muhammad Yusuf and Shujauddin at the presidential palace where they offered prayers for the slain leader, Pakistan’s official APP news agency reported.
