New Delhi : About 500 people will participate in a cycle rally Saturday demanding that the central government relook and revise its energy policy and invest hugely in renewable energy while moving away from fossil fuels.
The cycle rally will start at 8 a.m. at Jantar Mantar and will end at 10:30 a.m. after going through parts of central Delhi.
The initiative is part of global campaign ‘Moving planet’ to show politicians that in every country people are demanding an end to the fossil-fuel economy and an immediate transition to clean energy solutions.
“Thousands of people across India are preparing to take part in a global day of events dedicated to moving the planet away from dependence on fossil-fuels and towards a clean energy future,” said a Greenpeace statement.
According to Greenpeace, India’s economy is heavily dependent on fossil fuels like coal, petrol and natural gas, but with these resources fast depleting and causing greater harm to the environment, the time has come when India has to seriously relook its energy policy.
