New Delhi : The government will soon introduce in parliament a bill to check corruption and bring transparency in the procurement of raw materials in the public sector, Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office V. Narayanasamy said Monday.
“The public procurement bill will be introduced in parliament by the finance minister soon,” Narayanasamy told reporters at a press conference here.
He said the government was committed to reforming the public procurement system as it was one of the major areas of corruption, said Narayanasamy, who also holds charge of the personnel, public grievances and pensions portfolio.
“The finance ministry is taking the initiatives to ensure transparent manner of public procurement,” he said.
He said the government was in discussion with other countries for cooperation in checking corruption in public procurement.
The government sources goods worth almost Rs.11 lakh crore every year, but there is no proper policy to govern it.
