Islamabad : Chinese Vice Premier Meng Jianzhu arrived here Monday on a two-day official visit to hold talks with the Pakistani leadership.
He was received at the Chaklala airbase here by Interior Minister Rehman Malik and Pakistan’s ambassador to China Masood Khan, reported Associated Press of Pakistan.
Meng, who holds charge of the public security portfolio, will hold talks with Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and also meet the top military brass.
The visit by the Chinese leader comes at a time of intense strain between Islamabad and Washington with the US pressurising Pakistan to launch an offensive against suspected militant elements in North Waziristan tribal agency.
Recently, US officials publicly accused Pakistan and its intelligence agency of supporting Taliban’s Haqqani network. Pakistan has denied the accusations and called them as unfortunate.
