New Delhi : The three-storied building, which collapsed killing five and injuring 22 people in the Walled City in the capital, was more than 60-years-old, locals said Wednesday.
The Katra Data Ram ki Haveli was located in Chandni Mahal area near the Jama Masjid.
“Katra refers to a wing of tradesmen and craftsmen belonging to the same trade usually living and working together. The Haveli (building) was more than 60-years-old,” said Sharfaqt, a 55-year-old local.
It was originally owned by Data Ram Panna Lal who used to run a warehouse in the 1,000 square yard plot, said another 52-year-old local Saeed Khan.
Around one-and-a-half decade ago, he sold the Haveli to Kanhaiya. The third owner of the building was Rajender Sharma who divided it into two portions several years ago.
Jalal and Amin, the current owners of 80 yards of the building which fell, were carrying out construction work since the last 20 days.
