New Delhi : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Wednesday made it clear that it was not trying to destabilize the Congress-led government.
At a press conference also addressed by her colleague Sushma Swaraj, the BJP’s Rajya Sabha leader Arun Jaitley said the government was actually collapsing because of its “own contradictions”.
Sushma Swaraj insisted that the country was moving towards an early election. But if that happened, the government alone would be responsible.
“If their deeds are such that the country is moving towards a mid-term poll, why are they blaming us?” she asked.
The comments come after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said Tuesday night that attempts were being made to destabilize his government. He accused the opposition of being “prematurely restless” to force early elections.
“We don’t have the numbers to destabilise the government, we don’t even need to destabilize this government. It is collapsing under its own contradictions and under the liability of its own image,” Jaitley said.
