Lolienkar, who has been in the eye of controversy along with then chief minister and minister for mines Digambar Kamat, will be probed in the scam.

“It will be decided over the next two days whether the probe into his actions will be carried out by the vigilance department or the police,” a senior official said.

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, as leader of opposition, had pulled up Lolienkar on several occasions holding him responsible for what he described was a Rs. 25,000 crore mining scam in Goa.

Illegal extraction and export of iron ore has been one of the most contentious issues in Goa for the last few years. Goa extracted 56 million tons of iron ore from 100 odd operational mines in Goa.
