CBI files second chargesheet in Uttar Pradesh health scam

New Delhi : The CBI Wednesday named four people in its second charge heet filed in a Ghaziabad court in connection with alleged irregularities in the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) in Uttar Pradesh.

A senior Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) official informed that the charge sheet was filed against former Uttar Pradesh director general of family welfare S.P. Ram, former Uttar Pradesh Small Industries Corporation (UPSIC) managing director Abhay Kumar Bajpai, area manager Sanjeev Kumar and owner of a private firm Saurabh Jain.

The charge sheet was filed before CBI court in Ghaziabad.

As per the charge sheet, the NRHM contract was awarded in a pre-decided manner in procurement of medical equipment amounting to Rs.4.42 crore to two Moradabad-based firms by the then director general (family Welfare) through UPSIC thereby causing a loss of Rs.1.5 crore to the exchequer.

NRHM funds to the tune of about Rs.10,000 crore were allocated to Uttar Pradesh by the union health and family welfare ministry.

The CBI Tuesday filed the first charge sheet in the case against former Uttar Pradesh Jal Board general manager P. K. Jain and others for allegedly causing a loss of Rs.5.46 crore in upgrading 134 district hospitals.
