Former DMK minister Ramachandran arrested

By IANS,

Chennai : Tamil Nadu Police Tuesday arrested former DMK minister for health K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran for his alleged involvement in covering up a murder charge against a party member while he was a minister, said police.

Ramachandran was arrested in Virudhunagar, around 510 km from here.

The former minister alongwith his wife had landed in Madurai and his car was followed by the police. Once Ramachandran’s car reached Virudhunagar, the police arrested him under a case registered in 2010.

According to police, Ramachandran will be charged with destruction of evidence and criminal conspiracy.

The case related to Lakshmanan, a postal department official, who was hit and run over by a car driven by a DMK member Shahul Hamid.

It is alleged that Ramachandran, using his clout, made the police register a case of the victim dying under mysterious circumstances, thus preventing Hamid from being prosecuted.
