Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Congress leader Mr. Akbar Khan passed away at Silwani in Raisen district, about 100 kms from here, on April 9 afternoon following a massive heart attack.
Mr. Akbar, 54, is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters. He was laid to rest in Bada Bagh grave yard on Tuesday morning. His Namaz-e-Janaza was led by Maulana Peer Mohammad Saeed Mujaddidi aka Peer Saeed Miyan, Rector of Darul Uloom, Taj-ul-Masajid, in the premises of the historic mosque. His funeral was largely attended by the elite of the town along with political leaders cutting across party line.
Leader of the Congress Opposition in Madhya Pradesh Vidhan Sabha Mr.Ajay Singh, who expressed grief over the death of the Congressman, along with Congress MLA Mr. Arif Aqueel, Olympian-turned-politician Mr. Aslam Sher Khan etc. The chairman of BJP ruled Madhya Pradesh Minorities Commission Mr. Anwar Mohammad Khan was also present in the funeral amongst others. Late Mr. Akbar’s younger brother Mr. Aslam Khan along with sons of the deceased acknowledged the condolences of the people.
Begum Ayesha Sultan aka Sharmila Tagore and her film star son Saif Ali Khan, who were in Bhopal, visited the residence of Mr. Akbar to pay their respects and console the bereaved family.
Mr. Ajay described Akbar as a very energetic leader devoted for the welfare of the Congress party and minority community.
Mr. Akbar had contested Assembly polls against BJP’s former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mr. Sunderlal Patwa from Bhojpur constituency and had also served as the Chairman of the Mandideep’s Special Area Development Authority, (SADA). ([email protected])
