Ranchi : The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has again fielded Supreme Court lawyer Sanjeev Kumar for Rajya Sabha poll scheduled on May 3.
JMM chief Shibu Soren announced the name of Sanjeev Kumar Tuesday in presence of his son and Deputy Chief Minister Hemant Soren and other party ministers. The process for the poll to the two Rajya Sabha seats began Monday with the notification of the election commission.
Hemant Soren claimed that another alliance partner, All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) which has five legislators, has assured to support his party candidate in the poll. He said will also talk to alliance partner Bharatiya Janata Party for support in the poll.
The poll panel had recommended to President Pratibha Patil to cancel the notification for the two Rajya Sabha seats after Rs.2.15 crore in cash was seized on the outskirts of Ranchi on polling day March 30. The money was seized from an Innova car coming to Ranchi from Jamshedpur. It was suspected to be payoffs for getting a favourable vote from some legislators.
BJP had supported JMM in the March 30 poll. According to sources in BJP, efforts are on to bring JMM in fold of the National Democratic Alliance.
