Haripad: About a decade back when her husband Liyaqat Ali Khan died, Jasmine was left with nothing other than five small kids and a lot of debts. She even lost her home and it was from there she fought and put up a life by educating her kids to her level best. Her elder daughter Ziyana is now a Doctor, the very next daughter Jasna is doing MBBS and her third daughter Fasna is enrolled for a BDS programme under the govt quota. Her two younger sons Zulfiker and Akbar have been toppers in the class and Jasmine was again breathing smooth watching her sons doing well. But the fate has again been cruel to her, as her son Zulfiker is now admitted in the Yeshoda hospital, Secunderabad in a critical state.
It was on March 31st Zulfiker and Akbar accompanied their elder sister Ziyana to Delhi for attending PG counselling as she qualified the PG national board exam. The very next day morning as they reached Vijayavada station by around 10 AM, Ziyana realised that Zulfiker [15] is missing and it was after a five days search they found him dumped in the courtyard of the Vijayavada government hospital being critically injured after falling down from the train. The boy was nearing death and Jasmine on reaching there soon took him to the Yeshoda hospital in Secunderabad.
The doctors were of the opinion that Zulfi’s left hand and right leg should be cut off by immediate surgery. But Ziyana was no way ready to accept this and now doctors are making an attempt to remove muscles from his injured limbs through surgery, so that the blood circulation is retained. But the lack of blood in his body and his frequent unconsciousness has forced the doctors to decide for the operation.
The boy could be transferred to a hospital in Kerala only after a ‘fit medical report’ from Yeshoda Hospital and he is yet to undergo eight major operations, soon after the wounds are a bit healed.
Liyaqat Ali Khan died when Ziyana was studying in the Changanassery English medium school, she was later expelled from the school for not paying her fees and it was since then she joined Haripad Govt Boys HSS for plus two. She then scored high rank in the medical entrance exams and thus secured a seat in the Kottayam medical college.
The younger four kids were brought up in the Jamathe Islami Hind [JIH] run Ansar Charitable Trust’s orphanage in Perumpilavu [Thrissur] and they got enrolled in the charitable trust run English school as well. Zulfiker wrote CBSE 10th exams this year and everybody is expecting high marks because he scored 100 percentage marks in all the model exams conducted within the school.
Zulfiker was a boy who according to his teacher, “never did his homework, always made it to the class oddly dressed, but would always have a wide smile brimming with love and was the most intelligent of the lot”.
Appeal for help
His ambition was to become a Doctor, financial and emotional helps are at most required to bring him back to life. A sum of around 40 lakhs is expected for his treatment and per day medical expenditure is at around Rs 85,000. No railway officials until now has visited nor enquired regarding his state. According to latest reports he is slowly recovering and unlike the earlier coma stage, he has started responding to his dear ones, expressed his love towards a few dishes, has started taking food orally and there is relief in the infection level.
