Kolkata : With the Mamata Banerjee government drawing flak for many of its actions, the ruling Trinamool Congress Tuesday claimed there was a malicious campaign against her, fuelled by jealousy against her administration’s achievements.
“The people of Bengal have trusted Mamata Banerjee because they wanted change. The more she fulfils her promises, the more will be the volume of the malicious and slanderous campaign against her because powers with vested interests want to fulfil their own agenda,” said an editorial in the Trinamool Congress mouthpiece Jago Bangla.
“But these malicious campaigns won’t be able to stop Mamata Banerjee. She will succeed in the end because the masses are with her. The masses have given her hundred out of hundred on the performance front,” the editorial in the Bengali weekly newspaper said.
It echoed Banerjee’s comment that 90 percent of the work planned for the five-year tenure has been completed in less than a year.
“Both the health and education sectors are doing well. Other sectors are blooming too, but it is not possible to erase the crime of 400 months in just 11 months,” the editorial said in an obvious reference to the 34-year rule of the Left Front, which lost power to the Trinamool-Congress combine last May.
“The biggest achievement (of the Mamata government) is that the dreaded Maoists are also leaving the path of violence and coming back to the mainstream.”
The editorial claimed that industrialists like Venu Srinivasan and Adi Godrej have expressed their desire to invest in Bengal.
