Goa’s director of prosecution booked for corruption

By IANS,

Panaji : The chief of Goa’s prosecution department has been booked for alleged corruption and cheating just a week before she was to retire from service.

The first information report (FIR) was registered by the state vigilance department against director of prosecution Shobha Dhumaskar, following directions from District Judge Nutan Sardesai who was hearing a petition filed by activist lawyer Aires Rodrigues.

Rodrigues, in his complaint to the district judge earlier this year, had accused Dhumaskar of flouting government norms to hire a 76 sq metre flat in the state capital for official use by showing undue favours to the leaser and causing loss to the state exchequer.

Dhumaskar has been booked under Sections 420, 474 of the Indian Penal Code and also Section 13 (1) (d) (i) & (ii) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The registration of the offence comes a week before the officer was scheduled to retire from service.

The state prosecution department marshals public prosecutors and delivers strategic inputs to police officials in criminal investigation.
