New Delhi : A total of 19 mercy petitions are pending with President Pratibha Patil, parliament was informed Thursday.
In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Home Affairs Mullappally Ramachandran said that 34 mercy petitions of death convicts were pending till October 2009 and another six were received from October 2009 to April 19, 2012.
Of the total 34 petitions, 15 cases have been decided by the president and 19 are pending.
As per the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), 360 people were awarded capital punishments during 2008-2010.
