Damascus : At least 20 Palestinians died near Damascus Friday when government forces fired mortar rounds into a refugee camp near the capital, al-Arabiya news channel reported.
Overnight fighting between government and rebel forces intensified Friday in Tadamun neighbourhood in the capital, the news channel said.
Around 20,000 people have died since anti-government protests sparked off 17 months ago.
The UN and western nations, including the US, blame President Bashar al-Assad’s military for most of the violence. The Syrian government says the deaths were caused primarily by “terrorists” and their foreign supporters.
