The request for qualification (RFQ) and request for proposal (RFP) were approved at a meeting attended by officials of departments of tourism, finance, civil aviation and law.

The tourism department would soon invite bids for selection of a consultant for development of the international airport.

Industrial and Infrastructure Development Commissioner Anil K. Gupta said: “The selected consultant will be tasked to carry out surveys for evaluating various site options and selecting the best site.”

The consultant would also be asked to prepare a techno-economic feasibility report, a master plan, the bid documents and concession agreements for selection of developer within 32 weeks, he said.

“The Taj Mahal is a centre of attraction for foreign as well as domestic tourists, therefore, the need for an international airport at Agra is long overdue. The proposed airport will also ease the access to other world heritage sites in the area along with the Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri,” he added.
